SMART AWARDS

Support for the Company in the form of a SMART Award (Small Firms Merit Award for Research in Technology), was gained following a submission to Department of Trade & Industry for Yorkshire & Humberside. As a company, Gorix Ltd has invested heavily into research and development in the field of Thermal Efficiency, Analysis and Applications. The aid available from DTI has helped to finance the final research that made it possible to bring the Thermal Manikin project to the world market place. In 1996, scored its second success in the SMART competition with a project surrounding a deeper investigation into the sensory characteristics of Gorix E-CT and the potential applications for these characteristics.

Competition for the award is keen, with over 1400 companies taking part in the first round. Gorix have twice scooped the prize from the 14 selected finalists in the subsequent rounds of the competition.

As a continuation of the SMART competition Gorix has also secured DTI SPUR funding (Support for Products Under Research). This scheme allows the company to take the projects on from feasibility study to pre-production prototype stage.


OTHER AWARDS

Other awards collected to date by Gorix technology include 1st prize in the Sunday Times Invention of The Year for power and environmental inventions and a second place award in the over all Invention of The Year competition.

The most recent US award for Gorix has been the INPEX Gold Medal for Aeronautics and Aerospace applications at the Pittsburgh USA inventors fair, the development of the Hot Eye camera will undoubtedly prove to be a major aid to air passenger safety.

MILLENNIUM PRODUCTS AWARDS

Gorix Ltd have been a four time winner of Millennium Products Awards from the UK Design Council. The Millennium Products Initiative was proposed by UK Prime Minister - Tony Blair on his election to office to demonstrate the brightest and best inventions and design concepts coming out of Britain. Gorix E-CT was chosen as one of the first tranche winners of the Award on a televised judging of entries held at the 1999 Tomorrow's World Live Event from the NEC Birmingham. The Millennium Products Award Initiative have taken Gorix Products on travelling road show around the world where the countries visited by the exhibition include Argentina, Brazil, Singapore, Korea, India and France. Millennium Products have also been displayed in the Spiral of Innovation at the Greenwich Dome in London and the UK Design Museum.

A true accolade in the most relevant form "Hard Cash" was made by the sponsors of the Merseyside Innovation of the Year Competition in 1999 when Gorix not only won its preliminary round, but went on to win the Grand Final and scoop the single prize of £10,000.
